Inter Milan player shoots vs Torin

The 2014/15 Serie A season got under way this past weekend and D.C. United partner Internazionale began with a goalless tie on the road at Torino.

Goalkeeper Samir Handanovic provided the game’s biggest moment, turning away Marcelo Larrondo’s penalty kick in the first half after Fabio Quagliarella had gone down on contact by former Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic in his Inter debut. Vidic’s opening act in Italy also ended with an unluckly red card in stoppage time.

Despite being on the road, the Nerazzurri cranked up the pressure on the hosts from the start, with playmakers Hernanes and Mateo Kovacic – fresh from a Europa League hat-trick – assisted by Brazilians Dodo and Jonathan in feeding striker Mauro Icardi, who went close early with a header. Hernanes tried to conjure a winner from 25 yards late in the second half but was denied by Torino goalkeeper Daniele Padelli.

After just a point from their opener, Inter will aim for three when they take on Sassuolo at the San Siro in two weeks' time. Before then 13 Nerazzurri players will scatter around the globe with their respective national sides during the international break.
