Saturday will be the 72nd time that D.C United and the New York Red Bulls have faced off in the regular season, the most United have faced any team since the inaugural MLS season in 1996. The next closest? The Black-and-Red have faced New England the second-most times with 69 and Columbus third-most at 65.

The number of Atlantic Cups that D.C. United have won out of the 15 times the trophy has been awarded since it first started being handed out in 2002 to the winner of the regular season series between D.C. United and the New York Red Bulls. United are the current titleholders of the Atlantic Cup after winning once and drawing twice with the Red Bulls last season.

The Black-and-Red take their first step in defending the Atlantic Cup when they meet rival side New York Red Bulls for the first time this season on Saturday, April 15. United brought the Atlantic Cup back to D.C. last season after completing a particularly strong 2016 campaign against their foes,

In two games against the Red Bulls last season, United showed their resilience by coming from behind in dramatic fashion to earn draws after being two goals down. D.C. United ended up clinching the Cup with a wild 2-2 draw on Sept. 11 that saw them score twice in the game’s closing minutes; an 89th minute goal from Steve Birnbaum and a 95th minute equalizer from Lamar Neagle.

Goalkeeper Bill Hamid leads the MLS in saves with 22 through Week 6. The shot-stopper has been especially productive in the past two weeks, being named to the MLS Team of the Week (once in the starting XI and once as a reserve) in games against Philadelphia and New York City and being nominated for MLS Save of the Week in both weeks as well.

The number of times United have defeated the New York Red Bulls all-time in the regular season. The Black-and-Red will look for their 35th victory and only second ever at Red Bull Arena when the match kicks off at 7:30 PM.
