By the Numbers: D.C. United vs New England Revolution

Bill Hamid - 2012

Down the stretch, the only number that really matters is three, as in the three points D.C. United secured with a 2-1 win over New England on Saturday. That being said, we'll still take a look at some of the stats that help tell the story of the Black-and-Red's critical victory.

5
Saves by Bill Hamid, who did most of his work during a hectic 120-second span in the final moments of Saturday's match. In the 85th minute, Hamid made a 1-on-1 stop on Kelyn Rowe. A minute later, he acrobatically pushed a goal-bound deflection inches wide of the near post. Even Benny Feilhaber found himself alone in the box in the 87th minute, but the former U.S. national teamer couldn't beat Hamid from point-blank range.

10
Number of blocked shots by D.C. United. When Hamid wasn't making spectacular saves, his defenders often were. New England held a tremendous advantage in attempts on goal (28-12), but - because of some desperate defending, D.C. actually had more shots on target (7) than the Revs (6). One play that stood out was Brandon McDonald sliding to block Dimitry Imbongo's close-range effort in the 83rd minute.

31
Fouls committed by both teams. No one was surprised that Saturday's match turned physical, but the players who lead the charge were definitely not the likely candidates. Playmakers Branko Boskovic and Kelyn Rowe each committed three fouls, a testament to just how chippy‚ the match was.

23
Number of minutes for Hamdi Salihi, his longest appearance since August 19. Fresh from a World Cup qualifying stint with Albania, Salihi once again earned important playing time. After the match Ben Olsen praised the forward, who completed all four of the passes he attempted, and said Salihi "might have to start somewhere in the near future."

D.C. United's next home match is September 23 when Chivas USA comes to town - Join Olsen's Army
