D.C. United will travel to Red Bull Arena to take on the New York Red Bulls for their 23rd match of the 2021 Major League Soccer (MLS) Regular Season on Saturday, September 11 with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. The Black-and-Red will look to build on a strong performance in their last match prior to the international break when they take on their long-time rivals on Saturday night.

In their last match, D.C. United won 3-1 against the Philadelphia Union on August 28. United conceded an early goal but scored three unanswered to earn them three points against a tough Philadelphia side. The Union scored their goal in the 22nd minute when a cross took an unfortunate deflection off Steven Birnbaum that went into his own net. United nearly equalized shortly after, but Yordy Reyna’s first-time effort was saved acrobatically by Philadelphia’s goalkeeper. United scored in the 36th minute when Ola Kamara converted a penalty kick after he was taken down by a sliding challenge inside the penalty box. The goal was Kamara’s 12th of the season. The match went into halftime tied 1-1.

United started the second half strong and found the go-ahead goal in the 49th minute. Julian Gressel crossed a ball into Ola Kamara, whose strong header on target forced a save from the goalkeeper that Reyna pounced on to finish into the empty net. D.C. United were strong defensively throughout the second half and were able to hang on to their one goal advantage. Ramon Abila put the match away in the fifth minute of stoppage time when he picked up the ball in the box, beat a defender, and finished into the bottom left corner. The goal was Abila’s second since joining the club. United won the match 3-1.

The match against the Red Bulls will be the 83rd all-time meeting between the two original MLS clubs. D.C. United have a record of 36-31-15 against the New York Red Bulls but are only 14-17-8 against their rivals on the road. The Black-and-Red will look to improve on that record when they travel to Red Bull Arena on Saturday night.

D.C. United against the New York Red Bulls on Saturday, September 11 at 7 p.m. ET will be broadcast on NBC Sports Washington and TeleXitos and can be streamed on www.dcunited.com.
