Match Preview – D.C. United vs. Philadelphia Union | Saturday, September 27
D.C. United returns home to Audi Field this Saturday, September 27, for a rivalry match against the Philadelphia Union with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. The Black-and-Red will look to bounce back after a narrow 3-2 loss on the road against Inter Miami CF on Sept. 20, a match that ended their unbeaten run under Head Coach René Weiler.
This weekend also marks Noche Latina at Audi Field, a theme night dedicated to honoring the rich Latino history of the club. Don’t miss the celebration, get your tickets HERE.
United showed fight in South Florida, battling back twice but ultimately falling short in a back-and-forth contest. Homegrown midfielder Jackson Hopkins continued his strong run of form, while Christian Benteke added to his team-leading goal tally. Despite the defeat, the squad will take positives into Saturday’s clash as they aim to build on their momentum at Audi Field, where they’ve earned strong results under Weiler’s leadership, but they are still looking for their first MLS win.
Philadelphia is coming off a 1-0 win against the New England Revolution on September 20 and enters the weekend without their leading scorer, forward Tai Baribo, who is suspended due to yellow card accumulation. The Union, sitting on top of the MLS Supporters’ Shield standings, will need to rely on their depth to generate attacking chances in Baribo’s absence.
For D.C. United, midfielder Matti Peltola and defender Lukas MacNaughton both return to contention after serving one-match suspensions in Miami, giving Weiler added depth and options in midfield and defense. Their return is a boost as United looks to stay disciplined at the back and limit Philadelphia’s attacking opportunities.
With only three matches left in the 2025 MLS season, D.C. United will aim to finish strong in front of their home supporters. Limiting Philadelphia’s offense, staying compact defensively, and capitalizing on Audi Field momentum will be key for the Black-and-Red to secure three points.
