The Black-and-Red will look to regroup after a tough 3-0 away loss on April 26 to the Philadelphia Union, a match that featured moments of promise but ultimately slipped away against a disciplined and efficient opponent. Philadelphia struck first in the 15th minute when Jakob Glesnes scored off a volley from a throw-in by Francis Westfield, giving the Union early momentum that they carried throughout the match. As the match wore on, the absence of Christian Benteke and João Peglow, two of the team’s most dynamic attackers, became evident as D.C. United found it difficult to break through the Union's well-organized defense. There were still signs of attacking intent, with close chances falling to Jacob Murrell and Dominique Badji, along with a late attempt from Gabriel Pirani that forced a save from Andre Blake. In the second half, the Union doubled their lead in the 52nd minute through Danley Jean Jacques, and Bruno Damiani added a third in the 77th. A bright moment came in the 71st minute when forward Hakim Karamoko made his debut for the Black-and-Red, bringing fresh energy as he worked to make an impact in his first MLS appearance. Luis Barraza also made three key saves in the final moments to prevent further damage. The match offered D.C. United a valuable opportunity to reflect on areas for improvement when facing one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. The Black-and-Red will be determined to turn the page with a positive result back home at Audi Field this Saturday.

The Colorado Rapids have had a strong start to their season with a 5-3-4 (win-loss-tie) record and are coming off a 1-1 draw against the Seattle Sounders on April 26. The Rapids are fifth in the Western Conference standings and have been anchored by the creative influence of Djordje Mihailovic, who has tallied five goals and three assists in ten starts this season. His sharp passing and ability to find space between the lines has made him the engine in Colorado’s attack. On the defensive end, U.S. National Team goalkeeper Zack Steffen has brought stability in goal, while veteran defender Keegan Rosenberry continues to lead a disciplined backline. Colorado’s attack is further strengthened by the pace of Kévin Cabral and the movement of Brazilian Rafael Navarro, who provide consistent threats in transition. D.C. United’s midfield and defense will need to stay compact and alert to limit the Rapids’ ability to generate chances through Mihailovic and break quickly on the counter.

By the Numbers:

  • Defender Aaron Herrera created three chances and had seven accurate crosses; he completed 90 minutes on Saturday, April 26 against the Philadelphia Union.
  • Forward Jacob Murrell started his first match for the Black-and-Red since Feb. 22 against Toronto FC. Murrell won three aerial duels and had two total shots in 71 minutes played.
  • Midfielder Brandon Servania won the most duels in the match against the Philadelphia Union with 10 and recorded four recoveries in 90 minutes played.
  • Forward Hakim Karamoko made his Black-and-Red debut against the Philadelphia Union, coming on as a 71st-minute substitute. Karamoko created one chance and won one aerial duel.

Under the leadership of former head coach Wayne Rooney, D.C. United battled to a 0-0 draw against the Colorado Rapids at Audi Field, in a match filled with momentum shifts and missed chances. The Black-and-Red opened strongly, with early pressure marked by Christian Benteke’s close-range header and Victor Pálsson’s shot that forced a save from William Yarbrough. The pressure continued throughout the first half, with Benteke, Christopher Durkin, and Miguel Berry all getting looks on goal and testing the Rapids’ backline. However, Colorado gradually settled in, creating dangerous opportunities through Diego Rubio and Michael Barrios, whose long-range strike just before halftime was stopped by David Ochoa. The pivotal moment came in the 66th minute when D.C. United was awarded a penalty after a handball by Keegan Rosenberry, but Benteke’s attempt was saved by Yarbrough to keep the score level. D.C. United pushed for a winner with headers from Benteke and Donovan Pines, while Colorado threatened late. In a tightly contested match, both teams created opportunities but were unable find the finishing touch for a breakthrough.
