Match Preview - D.C. United @ CF Montréal on Saturday, Aug. 16 at Stade Saputo

D.C. United will visit CF Montréal this Saturday, Aug. 16 at Stade Saputo, in their second meeting with the Bleu-blanc-noir after a 0-0 draw earlier this March.

After both sides shared a point in the last meeting at Audi Field, the Black-and-Red head to Montréal with some new belief after the incorporation of new Head Coach René Weiler yesterday who finalized his visa process. In the 31st all-time regular season meeting (10-10-10) between the two sides, the Black-and-Red will look to get their 11th win and secure three points on the road. Both sides sit at the bottom of the Eastern Conference table with a 4-15-7 record and 19 points each. After a 2-0 loss to the New England Revolution this past weekend at Gillette Stadium, D.C. United will look to start Weiler’s era with a positive result away from home.

In Interim Head Coach Kevin Flanagan's last match, he gave midfielder Randall Leal his second consecutive MLS start in place of injured João Peglow and brought 22-year-old South Korean goalkeeper Kim Joon Hong back into the starting eleven for his eighth MLS appearance. The Black-and-Red's five-match streak of scoring one or more goal came to an end after New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner secured a clean sheet with four saves.

CF Montréal tied their last match 1-1 against Atlanta United on Aug. 9 and are winless in three matches, including two Leagues Cup matches that saw them lose to Liga MX sides Toluca and Puebla. With a 1-7-4 home record, the Bleu-blanc-noir will look to get their second home win of the MLS season and exploit D.C. United’s backline. Montréal forward Prince Owusu will look to add to his tally of 11 goals and three assists while goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois will look to command his backline and secure his fifth clean sheet.

The Black-and-Red will have to rely on their usual suspects in Christian Benteke and Gabriel Pirani to get the scoring started, while solidifying the backline with the likes of Lucas Bartlett and Kye Rowles. Weiler will look to exploit Montréal’s defense who has allowed 47 goals this season.
