Argentine midfielder Luciano Acosta obtained his Green Card that grants him permanent residence in the United States. Acosta will no longer occupy an international roster spot for the Black-and-Red.

“I’m happy to get my Green Card and I’m excited to have permanent residence in the United States,” said Acosta. “My family and I are glad to be in D.C. and this is a big step for us to continue settling in this city and country.”

The 23-year-old led the team with five goals last season and shared United’s Golden Boot award with forward Patrick Mullins. Acosta was a consistent figure in the Black-and-Red starting XI and made more appearances (31) than any other United player. Since his arrival from Boca Juniors in 2016, the creative midfielder has scored eight goals, recorded 16 assists and completed 102 key passes in 62 appearances.

In 2017, United went 5-0-0 in games where Acosta scored with the midfielder tallying a total of four game-winning goals and one game-winning assist. The enigmatic attacking midfielder is able to create space with clever footwork and was second in the league for dribbles completed (80) behind Columbus’ Justin Meram (88).
