This weekend, 16 of the top amateur squads in the area will take part in La Super Copa VI, the annual outdoor tournament of champions hosted by D.C. United and presented by Volkswagen. Each team earned a berth in the tournament by winning their respective adult league.
The action kicks off on Saturday at 9:00 a.m., when Spartan FC (Monarch’s Soccer League) takes on Palmeiras (Latin American League). The Aegean Hawks FC get their first crack at defending their La Super Copa V crown when they take on Inter De Virginia (Manassas Universal League) at 11 a.m.
"This is an exciting and meaningful tournament and we are thankful to D.C. United and all the tournament sponsors for the opportunity the Super Copa provides to showcase local talent,” said Aegean Hawks Manager Jonathan Knight, “This year we are intent on defending our title but know that it will not be an easy task. A little luck always needs to be on your side to go the distance.”

Rounding out the day’s round of 16 matches are Juventud Surena (Copa Taca Champions) vs. FAS (Woodbridge International) at 1:00 p.m. and Sbanyol (Springfield Soccer League) vs. La Chapin (Virginia International Soccer League) at 3:00 p.m.
Saturday’s tournament matches will be played on the turf field at RFK Stadium and are open to the public. The La Super Copa VI championship game will be played on the RFK Stadium main field immediately following D.C. United’s May 7 home match against F.C. Dallas.
Each team participating in La Super Copa received twenty adidas uniforms and tickets to D.C. United’s MLS First Kick thriller against the Columbus Crew. Verizon Wireless, State Farm, American Airlines and D.C. Lottery are supporting sponsors of La Super Copa VI.
