Korb's favorite RFK memory | 2015 shootout v. RSL

Defender Chris Korb has worked tirelessly to make sure opposing sides leave RFK Stadium with a zero on the scoreboard, but it was a wild shootout that he recalls as one of his favorite memories in the building.

That game, a 6-4 victory over Real Salt Lake on Aug. 1, 2015, set a record for total goals scored during an MLS game at RFK and helped United solidify their lead atop the Eastern Conference.

“That’s the craziest game I’ve ever been in,” Korb said.

The Black-and-Red started on their heels two minutes in when Joao Plata found the back of the net. Salt Lake struck again when USMNT midfielder Kyle Beckerman fired a strike from 25 yards out to go up 2-0.

Fueled by two goals from Chris Rolfe, United fought their way back to level and ultimately prevailed after a back-and-forth affair that saw goals from four other players. It was the second time in as many weeks United fell behind early in the match, and the second time they came from behind to win.

“Not good to let four goals in, but I think it was the same for the fans,” Korb said of the exhilarating fixture. “It’s something I’ll always remember.”
