When João Peglow stepped onto Audi Field for the first time back in March against Sporting Kansas City, the Black-and-Red fans weren’t just watching a new signing; they were witnessing the arrival of a player with flair, dazzling footwork, and unmistakable joy. These are the characteristics that embodies Brazilian football culture in its purest form.
The winger showed off his technical ability and won the affection of many at Audi Field against Sporting Kansas City with his contributions on both goals. Peglow won a penalty in the 59th minute for the first goal and assisted the second goal on a cross to midfielder Hosei Kijima, helping secure a 2-1 win.

"I’m a player who likes to combine with his teammates, be free to take on players, create chances, and of course score goals” said João Peglow, D.C. United forward. “I play with a lot of pride and joy, but at the end of the day I’m here to work and we as players have a job to do.”
Peglow has seven goal contributions (three goals and four assists) in 21 appearances so far in his debut season with the Black-and-Red. Joining D.C. United on Dec. 16, 2024, Peglow has quickly become one of the most exciting players on the team. Whether it’s a no-look pass, a perfectly timed step-over, or taking on multiple players, every touch he takes carries the unmistakable rhythm of Brazil - expressive, passionate, and unapologetically bold.
“When I think of Brazilian football, the one word that always comes to mind is joy.” said Peglow. “I am beyond proud of my country, my culture, and it’s an honor to represent Brazil every time I step out on the pitch”

Where it all began
Born and raised in Porto Alegre Brazil, Peglow grew up playing the game as it is engraved in Brazilian culture. At the age of nine, he began his career with SC International’s academy. The forward would work his way through the ranks of the academy with that same joy still fuels him today. Peglow would sign his first professional contract in 2020 at 16-years-old when he was promoted to the first team. With family being a core value for Latinos, Peglow contributes all his success to his family, who sacrificed so much for him to get to where he is today.
“I come from a very humble family, who were there for me every step of the way in my career.” said Peglow. “My father and mother both would take me to training all the time. My dad did so much for me. He was the one who taught me how to play football and I remember he started training me at the age of four. He would always remind me to keep up with my own training and would bring my older brother to train with me.”
Peglow made his debut for his boyhood club, SC Internacional, on July 25, 2020. He would score his first goal that same year on Dec. 6, 2020, against Clube Atlético Mineiro before finishing the season and being loaned out to Porto B in the Portuguese second division for the 2021 season. He returned to Brazil after finishing his loan and would spend two seasons in his home country before signing with Radomiak Radom in the Polish first division for the 2024 season. Then one year later, he would make his way to Major League Soccer at the age of 22-years old.

Why Major League Soccer?
Since arriving in Major League Soccer, Peglow has adapted to a new country, new teammates, and a new style of play, but one thing has remained unchanged: his infectious joy every time he steps onto the pitch. No matter the opponent or the stakes, Peglow brings the same vibrant energy and creative flair that defined his game back home in Brazil. Whether he's pulling off a jaw-dropping goal, launching a curling shot from distance, or dancing through defenders with effortless control, his ability to do the unimaginable reminds fans that football is not just a game, it’s an art. In a league known for its physicality and intensity, Peglow has stayed true to his roots, playing with a freedom and passion that turns every match into a celebration.
"Major League Soccer is growing so much every year and it already is a top league. It has so many good players, just like in Brazil and Europe, so I had no doubt when choosing to come here to D.C. United.” said Peglow

When Peglow made the move to MLS, he didn’t hesitate. He embraced the challenge head-on, unafraid of the physicality, pace, or pressure that came with it. From day one, he brought a fearless attitude and attacking prowess that instantly elevated D.C. United’s frontline. With his quick bursts of speed, sharp vision, and ability to create something out of nothing, Peglow became a spark for the club in the final third, injecting Brazilian creativity into every attacking play. As he continued to adapt and impress in his debut season, all eyes turned to his biggest test yet — his first rivalry clash against the New York Red Bulls, where his flair and fire will fully on display.
Breakout Match in Harrison, New Jersey
In his first match against the New York Red Bulls on April 19, Peglow stole the show with two goals, earning him a spot in the MLS Team of the Matchday and helping the Black-and-Red win their second match. This marked Peglow's first brace with D.C. United and fans will remember both goals for how effortless they looked. The second goal still lingers in all D.C. United fan’s minds as it was nothing short of spectacular.

"It was a great day for me and my family. I was looking to make my first official goal [for D.C. United] and it turned out to be two beautiful goals.” said Peglow “It was a magical night for me, but I was happier we were able to get the win.”
Peglow scored an audacious bicycle kick goal, twisting in midair and sending the ball into the far corner to make it 2–0 against the New York Red Bulls. His acrobatic finish instantly became a defining moment in D.C. United’s 2025 season and a statement that his flair belongs on the biggest stages.
"Sometimes we need to try different things and make it happen.” said Peglow “There I saw my opportunity to take a chance at a bike, so I tried it and was very happy with the outcome. If other opportunities come up like that, like how I scored the bike against Club Ámerica, I will do it again with even more confidence.”
Brazilian Connection
On and off the field, the connection between João Peglow and Gabriel Pirani has been undeniable — a bond rooted in their shared Brazilian heritage and attacking mindset. Whether combining with quick one-twos or reading each other’s movements instinctively in the final third, the duo brings a unique chemistry that gives D.C. United a creative edge.
“Gabriel is my brother here. It’s so easy; we play very similar and we have a vision for the game that makes things easy for us. We are always close to each other on the pitch and try to play off each other. We know we can make the difference so we both have a similar mindset on the pitch” said Peglow “Even off the pitch, we are both going to be dad’s at the same time and our kids can grow up together. It’s something very special and I am very thankful for our relationship.”

"We have a great friendship, especially since we are both Brazilian. We both had similar journeys in Brazil so we always talk a lot about back home.” said Gabriel Pirani, D.C. United midfielder. “When he arrived here I of course did everything I could to help him assimilate and make things easier for him. We have a great relationship both on and off the field and obviously doing everything we can to help the team.”
Their understanding seems almost telepathic at times, with Peglow’s flair complementing Pirani’s vision and control. More than just teammates, they bring the rhythm of Brazil to MLS — playing with joy, freedom, and an unspoken language that’s built not just on tactics, but on culture.

Peglow’s first season with D.C. United has been nothing short of spectacular, a fusion of footballing excellence and cultural celebration. From highlight-reel moments to match-winning performances, he’s brought an energy that’s elevated the entire squad. His Brazilian culture is evident in his play and he brings that joy every day to training, elevating his teammates around him.
As D.C. United pushes forward with big ambitions, one thing is certain: with Peglow on the field, the spirit of Brazil is alive and well — and fans are loving every second of it.
