Goalkeeper Bill Hamid Continues to Break Records

Bill Hamid is continuing to break records as D.C. Unitedā€™s top goalkeeper. On Wednesday, he recorded his seventh shutout on the season against Toronto FC in the best game of his career. Toronto had 35 shots, forcing Hamid to make twelve saves throughout the course of the match. Despite the uneven opportunities, Hamid and the defense ensured that D.C. United walked away with a point on the road.
It isnā€™t the first time this season Hamid has played an important role in getting the Black-and-Red points. The team has had two 1-0 wins so far this year and three scoreless draws. Just one wrong move by Hamid and the defense could have resulted in lost points. Hamid made a total of 28 saves across those five matches.

With that shutout, Hamid reaches 61 shutouts in his ten-year career with D.C. United. With just one more shutout, he will become one of the top ten all-time in MLS. Heā€™ll join the ranks of players like Nick Rimando, who leads the all-time list with 147 shutouts in 19 seasons.
Hamid has dawned the Black-and-Red for most of his career. He became a crucial piece of the puzzle when he returned to D.C. United last August, helping lead the team to the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference and a playoff spot after D.C. had been bottom of the table at the beginning of the year.
This season, D.C. United is trying to build off that momentum and chemistry. The defense, led by Hamid, has proved to be just as good-- if not better-- than he was last year. Hamid has already topped or equaled his total shutouts for six years of his ten-year career. And he is showing no sign of slowing down.
