Francisco Tobar earns 2011 MLS Team Administrator of the Year Award

Major League Soccer announced today that D.C. United’s Francisco Tobar has been named 2011 MLS Team Administrator of the Year, presented by ATI Event Experts. This is Tobar’s second League honor, having earned the Equipment Manager of the Year Award in 2007.

“There is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes at any MLS club, and to be recognized like this is very humbling,” said Tobar. “This is a blessing and I’m very grateful to those that had a say in the voting, and I’m thankful to the rest of our staff for their hard work this season.”

“Francisco is one of the hardest-working members of our club and he deserves this award,” said General Manager Dave Kasper. “We appreciate his efforts and all that he does for D.C. United on a day-to-day basis.”

Tobar is one of the longest-tenured members of D.C. United, having started with the club in its inaugural season as Visiting Team Liaison. He held this role until 1998, when he accepted a position with the Miami Fusion as the team’s Equipment Manager during the 1998 and 1999 MLS seasons.

Tobar returned to United in 2000, and earned the role of Equipment Manager in January of 2003. After serving in that position for five seasons, he was promoted to Team Administrator after claiming the League’s 2007 Equipment Manager of the Year Award. Since that time, Tobar has been responsible for all team logistics, including group travel arrangements, event operations and matchday coordination.

Tobar is a 1995 graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in Business Management and Sport Management. He currently resides with his wife Marxi in Woodbridge, Va.

Additionally, United’s sales staff has received Major League Soccer’s Presidents Club honor for Group Sales (70,000-89,999 Group Tickets sold).
