eMLS Representative, Mohamed “KingCJ0” Alioune Diop, Makes First Finals Appearance at the 2021 eMLS League Series Two

Mohamed “KingCJ0” Alioune Diop, D.C. United’s eMLS professional, finished in second place in the qualifiers before falling 6-5 in the finals of the eMLS League Series Two. He became the first D.C. United eMLS representative to make it to a League Series Finals and continues to make progress towards his ultimate goal of winning the eMLS Cup.


The League Series Two qualifying consisted of 12 matches played over the course of two weeks with the top eight players out of 27 qualifying for the knockout round. KingCJ0 went 8-2-2 in 12 qualifying matches to earn him 26 points, which was enough to earn him second place and qualify for the knockout round. “KingCJ0” scored 40 goals in his qualifying matches, the second most out of all 27 players.


In the first round of the knockout stage, KingCJ0 defeated KID M3MITO from Chicago Fire FC, 5-3 over two legs. He moved on to the semifinals to face Alanavi of FC Dallas, and after tying the first leg 2-2, KingCJ0 and Alanavi played the most exciting match of the tournament with KingCJ0 getting the better of KID M3MITO in ten rounds of penalties after drawing the two legs 4-4. KingCJ0 made each of his last four penalties to win 6-5 in the sudden death round and clinch his spot in the finals. In the finals, KingCJ0 lost 6-5 in an exciting two legs which ended with his opponent, NYCFC representative, DidyChrislito, scoring a goal in extra time to win the match and the League Series Two Finals. The final was the most viewed match of the entire competition, totaling over 60,000 viewers on Twitch at its peak.


KingCJ0 is happy with the progress he is making and knows that even though he lost in the final, the experience and confidence he gained will help him going forward.


“It was a good experience for me to represent D.C. United in the League Series Two Final.” KingCJ0, said. “I’m gutted that I made it so far and came up just short, but making it to the final was a big step for me. I proved that I could compete against the other top players in the eMLS, and I’m looking forward to this experience helping me as I start to prepare for the eMLS Cup.”


His performance over the course of League Series One and League Series Two qualifying has earned him a spot in the eMLS Cup which will take place on March 20-21. The eMLS Cup is the final tournament of the season which crowns the overall champion of the eMLS, and only the top 12 players in the overall standings qualify. KingCJ0 is currently the second seed in the overall eMLS Cup standings.
