DeLeon's favorite RFK memory | The fortress

As a first-round pick, midfielder Nick DeLeon has known only one team, and one home stadium, in his professional soccer career. When asked what he would most remember about playing at RFK Stadium, it was the raucous supporters that turned the historic building into a fortress.

“It’s always special,” DeLeon said of the fans who have filled RFK over the years. “They’re a loud bunch and they’re a rowdy bunch.”

RFK’s cavernous design held in sound that could turn the building into an opposing side’s worst nightmare, and created an atmosphere that could feel like a party with friends as much as a sporting event.

And they always got louder.

“They’re there when we’re up,” DeLeon said, “and they’re especially there when we’re down. They really make that place special to me.”
