D.C. United exercise contract options on six players

D.C. United announced today that they have exercised the contract options of six players from the 2017 roster, bringing the club’s roster to 15 players under contract for the 2018 season.


United picked up the options of Luciano Acosta, Nick DeLeon, Taylor Kemp, Kofi Opare, Jalen Robinson, and Travis Worra. Players already under contract for the 2018 season include Paul Arriola, Steve Birnbaum, Russell Canouse, Chris Durkin, Ian Harkes, Jared Jeffrey, Bruno Miranda, Patrick Mullins, and Zoltán Stieber.


United did not exercise the options of Deshorn Brown, Julian Büscher, Sean Franklin, Eric Klenofsky, Chris Korb, Chris Odoi-Atsem, Lloyd Sam, and Rob Vincent.


Patrick Nyarko, Marcelo Sarvas, and Bill Hamid are out of contract with the Black-and-Red, and Chris Rolfe announced his retirement earlier this month.


United and goalkeeper Steve Clark are actively engaged in contract discussions.


After today’s announcement, United’s active roster stands as follows:


Goalkeepers (1): Travis Worra


Defenders (5): Steve Birnbaum, Chris Durkin, Taylor Kemp, Kofi Opare, Jalen Robinson


Midfielders (7): Luciano Acosta, Paul Arriola, Russell Canouse, Nick DeLeon, Ian Harkes, Jared Jeffrey, Zoltán Stieber


Forwards (2): Bruno Miranda, Patrick Mullins
