D.C. United to Play Against NISA side Flower City Union in the Third Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 8, 2022) – D.C. United will play away against National Independent Soccer Association (NISA) side Flower City Union in the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The game will be hosted at Marina Auto Stadium in Rochester, NY. The Black-and-Red were drawn against the Flower City Union during Friday’s draw. This will be the first meeting and Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match-up between the two sides.

The Black-and-Red have won the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup three times in club history. They captured their first cup title in the inaugural MLS season in 1996 after beating the Rochester Rhinos 3-0. In 2008, D.C. United hoisted the domestic trophy once again when they beat the Charleston Battery 2-1. Most recently, the club captured their third cup championship in 2013 after a 1-0 win against Real Salt Lake.

The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is a single-elimination tournament designed to crown the top soccer club in the United States. The domestic cup tournament features clubs from all four professional leagues sanctioned by the United States Soccer Federation: Major League Soccer, the United Soccer League Championship and League One, and the National Independent Soccer Association, as well as amateur teams.
