D.C. United today announced that Homegrown midfielder Collin Martin has been selected to the United States Under-21 Men’s National Team (MNT) Training Camp, which will take place April 20-24, at the National Training Center in Carson, Calif. The camp will consist of three days of training before culminating with a friendly against Club Tijuana on Wednesday evening.
The U-21 MNT camp was set up to bridge the gap between the Under-20 National Team and the Senior National Team, as well as form a core group of players that will make up the majority of the Under-23 Men’s National Team that will attempt to qualify for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
In 2012, Martin was the only high school junior to train with the U.S. Men’s U-20 National Team in January, and traveled with the squad for the Toulon Tournament in France from May 28 – June 8. The midfielder started the first game against France, and was also part of the U-20 team that competed in the 2012 Northern Ireland Milk Cup in July. The Chevy Chase, Md., native has also represented the United States at the U-14, U-15 and U-17 levels.
On July 7, 2013, Martin became the sixth United player to sign a homegrown contract. In his first professional season he appeared in seven games (four starts) with one assist, which he recorded in his first appearance on Aug. 3 against the Montreal Impact. In 2014, he has recorded two assists in three matches for USL affiliate, Richmond Kickers, and is yet to feature for D.C. United.
