Rookie season: Played 22 games, starting 18, and notched two assists
DCU career: Featured in 89 games (80 starts), scoring eight goals and assisting 16 times from 2000-04.
Notable: At 16-years-old, Convey was the youngest player, at the time, ever signed by MLS.


Name: Ryan Nelsen (2001; #4 overall selection)
Rookie season: Played 19 games, starting 19, and tallied two assists
DCU career: Featured in 81 games (78 starts), scoring seven goals and assisting five times from 2001-04.
Notable: Led United to a 2004 MLS Cup as captain, and then transferred to Blackburn Rovers of the English Premier League. Was named the head coach of Eastern Conference rival Toronto FC on January 8, 2013.


Name: Santino Quaranta (2001; #8 overall selection)
Rookie season: Played 16 games, starting 10, and notched five goals and one assist.
DCU career: Featured in 159 games (120 starts), scoring 24 goals and adding 29 assists from 2001-06 and 2008-11.
Notable: In his rookie season, Quaranta became the youngest player to play, start, score and earn Player of the Week and MLS All-Star honors at that time.


Name: Alecko Eskandarian (2003; #1 overall selection)
Rookie season: Played 23 games, starting five, and tallied three goals and two assists.
DCU career: Featured in 81 games (47 starts), scoring 20 goals and adding seven assists, from 2003-06.
Notable: Eskandarian was a two-time All-Star and five-time MLS Goal of the Week winner. 


Name: Brian Carroll (2003; #11 overall selection)
Rookie season: His playing time was limited to U.S. Open Cup matches and friendlies.
DCU career: Appeared in 121 games (106 starts), tallying two goals and 11 assists from 2003-07.
Notable: Carroll and his two brothers, Jeff and Pat, all played for D.C. United.


Name: Freddy Adu (2004; #1 overall selection)
Rookie season: Played 30 games, starting 14, and scored five goals and tallied three assists.
DCU career: Featured in 87 games (59 starts), notching 11 goals and 17 assists from 2004-06.
Notable: In 2004, Adu became the youngest American athlete to sign a major league contract in more than 115 years.


Name: Chris Pontius (2009; #7 overall selection)
Rookie season: Played in 28 games, starting 23, and notched four goals and three assists en route to being named a 2009 MLS Rookie of the Year finalist.
DCU career: So far, Pontius has featured in 101 games (87 starts), tallying 25 goals and adding 13 assists.
Notable: In 2012, Pontius was named the MLS All-Star Game MVP and was selected to his first MLS Best XI.


Name: Perry Kitchen (2011; #3 overall selection)
Rookie season: Played in 31 games, starting 30, and tallied one goal.
DCU career: In two seasons, Kitchen has featured in 63 games (62 starts), notching one goal and one assist and has already logged close to 6,000 minutes.
Notable: In 2011, Kitchen became the only rookie in United’s history to lead the team in minutes played (2,726) during his inaugural MLS campaign.


Name: Nick DeLeon (2012; #7 selection overall)
Rookie season: Played in 28 games, starting 25, and tallied six goals and four assists.
DCU career: Same as above.
Notable: In 2012, DeLeon broke United’s rookie goal-scoring record (six) en route to being named the club’s fourth consecutive MLS Rookie of the Year finalist in as many seasons.
