Audi Field to Host Second Annual Capital Cup Presented by XDC Network in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 12, 2021) – Audi Field today announced that the 20,000-seat venue located in downtown Washington, D.C. will play host once again to the international soccer tournament, the Capital Cup presented by XDC Network. This year’s competition will have matches in the evening on June 1, 4, and 7, and feature prominent teams from North and Central America, including four-time Major League Soccer (MLS) Cup champions, D.C. United, 14-time El Salvador Primera División Champions, Club Deportivo Águila (C.D. Águila), and one of the most successful clubs in the Guatemalan Liga Nacional, Club Xelajú MC (Club Xelajú).

The full 2022 Capital Cup schedule played at Audi Field follows:

  • June 1, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. EST – D.C. United vs. C.D. Águila
  • June 4, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. EST – C.D. Águila vs. Club Xelajú
  • June 7, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. EST – D.C. United vs. Club Xelajú

Information on the three clubs set to feature in this year’s tournament can be found below.

  • D.C. United: D.C. United are the most decorated professional soccer club in the United States with 13 domestic and international trophies. The Black-and-Red have won the MLS Cup four times (1996, 1997, 1999, and 2004), the Supporters’ Shield four times (1997, 1999, 2006, and 2007) and the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup three times (1996, 2008, and 2013).
  • C.D. Águila: Based in San Miguel, El Salvador, C.D. Águila is one of the most successful clubs in El Salvador soccer history. Águila have won sixteen Primera División championships, one Copa Presidente (the domestic cup tournament in El Salvador), and one CONCACAF Champions’ Cup in 1976.
  • Club Xelajú: Founded in 1928, Club Xelajú are one of the most decorated clubs in the Liga Nacional, the top tier of Guatemalan soccer. The ‘Superchivos,’ as they are affectionately known by their supporters, have won five Liga Nacional titles and three Copa de Guatemala trophies.
