D.C. United falls at Red Bulls, 2-0

D.C. United (1-1-0, 3 points) suffered its first loss of the 2015 MLS regular season, dropping a 2-0 decision at Red Bull Arena in the home opener for the New York Red Bulls (1-0-1, 4 points).


  • Bradley Wright-Phillips  scored New York’s first goal in the 25th minute and set up Lloyd Sam for the second in the 71st minute.
  • Chris Rolfe had United’s best chances, forcing diving stops by Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles (five saves) the 33rd and 77th minutes.
  • Chris Pontius missed a penalty kick in second half stoppage time, sending the ball over the goal.
  • D.C. United returns to action on March 28 at RFK Stadium against reigning MLS Cup champions Los Angeles Galaxy (CSN, 7).
