D.C. United and Dreams for Kids DC

In his first season in Washington, defender Sean Franklin has strengthened D.C. United both on and off the field. In addition to his veteran presence for the Playoff-bound Black-and-Red, he is the athlete ambassador for Dreams for Kids DC, which teamed up with United for an Extreme Recess Soccer clinic at RFK’s training field on Sunday, Oct. 5.

Franklin and Kofi Opare, along with midfielders Perry Kitchen and David Estrada, took part in soccer activities with 100 children with physical and developmental disabilities.

The free clinic gave many of the children the opportunity to enjoy a fun day of soccer. Franklin, Opare, Kitchen and Estrada spent the clinic actively helping kids through various soccer training stations including passing, shooting, dribbling and agility drills. The event concluded with a pizza party and autograph signing session for all participants of the event.

Dreams for Kids’ mission is to empower young people of all abilities through dynamic leadership programs and life-changing activities. Extreme Recess clinics pair each child with a volunteer so every child is engaged effectively. In addition to Franklin’s role, it was Kitchen’s second experience with the youth organization and children’s charity.
