First Team

Training Notes: April 3, 2014

Collin Martin Training 3-11

The Black-and-Red are back at it this week, preparing for a New England side that, like DCU, just found the back of the net for the first time this year. While United saw goals from Fabián Espíndola and Perry Kitchen, New England’s Lee Nguyen found the game winner after San Jose scored an own goal for the Revs’ first.

As gameday approaches, D.C. United is focused on continuing to improve on the pitch, knowing that with improvement and time, wins will come. So, this week the team watched film on New England and had several hard training sessions.

In today’s session the squad warmed up with its usual 5v2, which included its typical yelling, laughing and making the young players go in the middle. Then, after a passing drill, the team broke off into two groups. One ran through pattern play while Head Coach Ben Olsen tinkered with lineups and the other played to goal.

Injury Updates
Luis Silva suffered an ankle injury last Saturday against the Chicago Fire. The talented midfielder left the match in the 38th minute and was replaced by Davy Arnaud. Silva will be out for 3-4 weeks with a left ankle sprain.

On a good note, defenders Chris Korb and Jalen Robinson both returned to full training with the First Team today. Korb underwent knee surgery on March 15 to repair an articular cartilage and Robinson pulled his hamstring in a preseason game in Charleston. The two looked sharp today out at training.
