After a tough 2-1 loss at RFK on Saturday, D.C. United took to the training field today to prepare for this weekend’s opponent—the Montreal Impact. The Black-and-Red worked through some passing patterns, played a game of possession in which the objective was to connect passes through gates for points, then moved to a scrimmage in a tight space to full-size goals.
Kitchen and Porter Train
Perry Kitchen, after sitting out Saturday’s match with a hip pointer injury, trained this morning. Kitchen participated in all parts of the session, looking sharp and working hard. Kyle Porter suffered an injury and exited Saturday’s game in the 59th minute. But, the midfielder trained hard today, enjoying the entire training session.
Lewis Neal Working His Way Back
Lewis Neal had abdominal/groin surgery in May. For the past few training sessions, Neal has been partaking in training; today, he particpated in every drill and played as the neutral player in the final scrimmage. The talented midfielder continues to work hard, getting his touch and fitness back.
Clarence Goodson is #Kuykenstrong
Last night, the United States Men’s National Team won the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Once the game ended, center back Clarence Goodson took off his jersey and revealed a t-shirt that read “#Kuykenstrong.” Former DCU member and current cancer patient Shawn Kuykendall and Goodson were teammates on the Braddock Road Warhawks. The two standouts won the U-17 national championship together.
