Tale of the Tape vs. Colorado

Chris Pontius Tale

In boxing, the tale of the tape is the pre-fight measurements between the two combatants. In 2013, we're telling the tale of the tape between D.C. United and its foe of the week.

Winning All-Time Record
D.C. United holds a winning all-time record against the Colorado Rapids, registering a 17-13-7 mark. In the teams’ last meeting on 5/16/12 at RFK Stadium, United recorded a 2-0 victory.

Ruiz vs. Colorado
D.C. United striker Carlos Ruiz has scored the joint third-most goals among active players against the Colorado Rapids with eight. Only Brian Ching and Landon Donovan have notched more, with 13 and 10 goals, respectively, vs. the Rapids.

Problems in the Box
The Colorado Rapids have conceded the most number of penalties this season in MLS. In 2013, the Rapids have given away five PKs, conceding goals from three of those.

Colorado Connections
Two Black-and-Red players have deep, personal ties to the state of Colorado. Goalkeeper Joe Willis played collegiately for the University of Denver, where he was an All-MPSF selection for three consecutive years. Rookie Taylor Kemp grew up just outside of Denver, in Highlands Ranch, Colo.

Shots in Colorado
In the 18 League games D.C. United has played away to the Colorado Rapids, the Black-and-Red have registered 216 shots, an average of 12 per game. Of those 216 shots, 105 have been on target.
