Lionard Pajoy Q&A

Lionard Pajoy interview

On Thursday morning, D.C. United pulled off a stunning tradewhen the Black-and-Red acquired Lionard Pajoy from Philadelphia in exchange forDanny Cruz.  We caught up withPajoy in the moments after his first training session with the club.

dcunited.com: Lionard, welcome to Washington.  How did you find out about the news of the trade yesterday and what was your reaction?

Lionard Pajoy: I was surprised.  I’m new to this league and I’m learning how thingswork.  But I’m happy to arrive herewith a historic team that has won titles. Colombians have also passed through this club.  Obviously there is some nostalgia of leaving friends andfamily, but from a sporting standpoint, I’m happy.  I hope to provide some goals and experience.

dcunited.com: You have played in some big games in Copa Libertadores;do you expect that to come in handy as this team makes a run towards theplayoffs?

Pajoy:  Morethan anything else, that is what I want. To make the playoffs and play in a final.  I’m accustomed to winning titles and being a champion, that’s what I came to look for in Washington.  Hopefully with my hard work, and hard work from my teammates,we can bring another title to this club.

dcunited.com: What have D.C.’s coaches told you about your new role?

Pajoy:  I’mstill adapting.  To the style ofplay and to the team.  But I knowsoccer and my experience makes it easier for me to pick these things up.  I’m ready and willing whenever thecoach calls on me.

dcunited.com: You mention style, what are the bigdifferences between D.C. and Philly?

Pajoy:  InPhiladelphia, they play with only one forward.  Here at practice today, we used two.  There were some different movements, but soccer is always the same. You have to attack and defend, that is all.
