DeRo welcomes RG3 to Washington

D.C.'s 'other' football team gave many area residents reason to smile Thursday night when the Washington Redskins selected highly-touted quarterback Robert Griffin III with the second overall pick in the NFL Draft.  Expectations are high for the Baylor product, but as evidenced by the video above, United captain Dwayne De Rosario thinks RG3 can live up to the hype.

Griffin will be the Redskins first #2 overall pick since LaVar Arrington, who has become a good friend to D.C. United since retiring from professional football in 2007.

Interestingly enough, D.C. United has no history of its own with drafting in the second overall spot. The Black-and-Red did select Carey Talley with the second pick in the second round (15th overall) of the 1998 MLS College Draft and Talley went on to be a key contributor on the 1999 MLS Cup-winning side, scoring four goals and starting in all six of United's playoff matches that year.
