Jed Zayner undergoes knee surgery

Jed Zayner is set to begin his first full season with D.C. United.

D.C. United announced today that Jed Zayner has undergone successful surgery to repair a knee injury suffered in training on Tuesday, June 28. Zayner’s medial menisectomy was performed by Doctor Pete Edwards of Ohio Orthopedic Center of Excellence in Columbus, Ohio.  The defender is expected to miss six weeks of action.

Entering his first full season with the Black-and-Red, Zayner has been in and out of United’s 2011 lineup due to injury. So far this season, Zayner played in four League games (four starts), recording one assist in 311 minutes of action.

Zayner joined D.C. United last season from Columbus in exchange for a second round 2012 MLS SuperDraft selection on August 6, 2010. He made nine appearances (nine starts) for United over the remainder of the season in 798 minutes of play.

Before joining United, Zayner played for Columbus Crew from 2007 through mid-2010. During his time in Ohio, Zayner appeared in 36 matches (21 starts) and was a member of the team that won the 2008 MLS Cup.
