Jaime Moreno earns MLS Player of the Week honors

Washington, D.C. (May 4, 2009) - Major League Soccer announced today D.C. United’s captain Jaime Moreno has been named MLS Player of the Week for Week 7. In Saturday’s 2-1 win over FC Dallas, the Bolivian scored both of United’s goals as D.C. jumped to the top spot in the Eastern Conference with a 3-1-3 record (12 pts.). This is Moreno’s seventh MLS Player of the Week award and first since Week 9 in 2006 when he scored two goals in a 3-1 road victory over the Kansas City Wizards.

The League’s all-time leading goal-scorer (124) has two goals and an assist in four games played this season. Prior to Saturday’s match, Moreno was honored for being the first player in the MLS to score 100 goals and tally 100 assists. He joined the ‘100-100 club’ after recording an assist in United’s 1-1 tie against New England April 17. Moreno also has 74 career appearances and 11 goals for the Bolivia national team.

D.C. United is currently riding a four-game unbeaten streak in all competitions and stands tied for first place in Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference standings. United is unbeaten at home so far this season and will look to keep that streak going next Saturday as they host Toronto FC at 7:30 p.m. ET. The club will first turn its attention to Kansas City in a mid-week contest set for May 6 at 8:30 p.m. ET.
