Story of the Match

St. Louis CITY SC return home to CITYPARK this weekend to host our very own D.C. United in a Western vs. Eastern conference matchup on Saturday, March 23. St. Louis is looking to extend their unbeaten run in MLS after a frenetic 3-3 draw against the LA Galaxy last week.

St. Louis will be buoyed by a strong home record in 2023, when they lost just five games. Meanwhile, D.C. United will aim to improve their road form from last season that saw only four wins in 14 games.

The Black-and-Red squad are also looking to bounce back from last weekend’s 3-1 defeat to Inter Miami. Early in the season, both D.C. and St. Louis have plenty to prove in this early season matchup.

Certain key players for D.C. United will be missing on international duty for this weekend’s match. Matti Peltola, Aaron Hererra, Kristian Fletcher, and Matai Akinmboni are all representing their respective countries. Added to the list, Pedro Santos will miss this weekend’s match due to the red card he received late in the last match against Miami. With that said, however, Christian Benteke made his return to the starting Xi last weekend.

This matchup will be a historic first-time clash between one of MLS’s most historic and storied franchises and an ambitious newcomer only in their second MLS season.

By the Numbers

  • Last match was Benteke's 40 MLS match with D.C. United
  • D.C. United ranked 2nd in the league with 13.8 successful tackles per match; St. Louis ranked 8th with 11.0 successful tackles per match.
  • The Black-and-Red are ranked 3rd in MLS with 11.9 interceptions per match; St. Louis ranked 7th with 10.3 interceptions per match.
