Story of the Match

Manager Troy Lesesne will be back on the touchline after his team put together an emphatic 3-1 win over the New England Revolution in D.C. United’s home opener last weekend.

Spurred on by a Christian Benteke hat trick, D.C. United was one of only three Eastern Conference sides to earn three points on their opening weekend action.

Up now is a two-game road trip, starting with a West coast matchup against the Portland Timbers who put four goals past Colorado in their season opener. Portland’s attack is led by a 22-year-old Brazilian winger who was signed last summer and scored two goals in his last week’s win.

Previous Matchups

Historically, these two Eastern and Western Conference sides have only played ten times in the MLS regular season. Our last clash was in 2019 with the Black-and-Red coming back to the nation’s capital with 3 points. The current record is tied at four wins each, and two draws.
