D.C. United (7-4-5, 26 points) split points with the Chicago Fire (4-5-6, 18 points) after a 3-3 thriller at Audi Field on Wednesday night. Ulises Segura scored his first MLS brace for the Black-and-Red and Leo Jara added his first multi-assist game with two assists on the night. Chris Odoi-Atsem made his first MLS appearance (played 68 minutes) since March 24, 2018, against Columbus.


The game got off to a rough start for D.C. United. They found themselves down two goals within the first 15 minutes of the match. CJ Sapong headed home a set-piece in the 12th minute of the match to give the Fire the early lead. Just two minutes later, Djordje Mihailovic took a long-range shot that deflected off of Junior Moreno and past Bill Hamid to double Chicagoā€™s lead in the 14th minute.

United settled into the game and started to pick up their movement off the ball. Wayne Rooney nearly got on the board in the 39th minute. Leo Jara found space on the right wing and played a ball to Rooney at the near post. Rooney leaped for the cross and fired his header inches over the bar.


Segura scored the first of the night for D.C. United in the 44th minute. Rooney played Segura inside the box and the Costa Rican slotted the ball past Chicagoā€™s Kronholm to split their lead in half. Moments later, Lucas Rodriguez finished to seemingly tie the game at 2-2 upon further video review, VAR decided that there was a handball infraction before the goal was scored and the goal was disallowed.

The Black-and-Red continued to fight and in the 61st minute Segura broke free of his defender and went in, one-on-one with Kronholm. Segura again placed the ball low and into the corner of the net for the tying goal and his first MLS brace.


The magic man, Luciano Acosta gave United itā€™s first lead of the match in the 81st minute. Leo Jara whipped in a cross with Acosta and Rodriguez inside the box. The Argentine met the cross with his head and powered the ball into the back of the net to take the 3-2 lead with under 10 minutes remaining.

The lead was short lived as Bastian Schweinsteiger popped a ball up and over the United back line to Francisco Calvo, who just knocked over the top of Hamid and into the net for the tying goal late in second-half stoppage time. The match finished 3-3 as both teams split points at Audi Field.
