D.C. United have announced that the Washington Spirit of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) will play two regular season matches at Audi Field in August and September.
“We are very happy to host The Washington Spirit again at Audi Field for two matches this season,” Jason Levien, D.C. United CEO and Co-Chairman, said. “We hope for big turnouts from the soccer community in the DMV to cheer the team on once again.”
The Spirit will play against the Orlando Pride on Aug. 24 and Reign FC (formerly the Seattle Reign) on Sept. 14. Kickoffs for both matches are scheduled for 7:30 PM ET.
The Washington Spirit will play their remaining 10 home matches at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md.
Last season, the Spirit made their first appearance at Audi Field in a 1-0 loss to Portland Thorns FC on Aug. 25. They attracted a club record 7,976 spectators at the first match in the District’s new home for soccer.
“After a fantastic experience for both our players and our fans at our debut at Audi Field last year, we are excited to double that excitement with two games this season at D.C. United’s Audi Field,” Larry Best, Washington Spirit CEO, said. “We believe playing in the larger venue gives more fans the accessibility and the opportunity to see the quality product we are putting on the field.”
The fixture against coincides with the conclusion of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France as the Spirit’s international players will have returned to the team in time to rejoin the club at Audi Field.
