United have acquired $75,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) from the New York Red Bulls in exchange for the rights to academy product Jean-Christophe Koffi. United will also receive a percentage of any future transfer fee for Koffi outside of Major League Soccer.
Koffi was a product of the D.C. United Academy after joining the Academy in 2011. The Potomac, MD, native went on to play collegiately at the University of Virginia.
The midfielder scored three goals and recorded four assists in 2017 on his way to First-Team All-ACC honors and a First-Team All-American selection from TopDrawSoccer.com. In three seasons with the Cavaliers, Koffi scored six goals while contributing seven assists in 57 games.
Born in Abidjan in the Ivory Coast, Koffi moved to the United States with his family in 2009.
