Less than a year after breaking ground on Audi Field, D.C. United, fans, partners, and construction crew members gathered back at the site of the Black-and-Red's new home to commemorate the placement of the final piece of structural steel on the stadium. The Jan. 26 Topping Off Ceremony signaled the completion of another major construction milestone as the club moves closer to opening their new state-of-the-art home on July 14, 2018.

Groundbreaking | Feb. 27, 2017


Black-and-Red supporters descended on Buzzard Point in February of last year to celebrate Audi Field's official groundbreaking. United players and staff, MLS Commissioner Don Garber, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, and United Managing General Partner and CEO Jason Levien joined fans at the Southwest D.C. site to celebrate the long-awaited stadium coming to fruition.

Shortly after breaking ground, the Black-and-Red committed to raising the level of fan experience at Audi Field by partnering with Levy and famed D.C. chef José Andrés to oversee all food and beverage experiences at the new stadium. Andrés will serve as the culinary curator of United's new home, and his passion for soccer and excitement for Audi Field have remained evident since the partnership was initially announced. 

Audi Field construction goes vertical | July 29, 2017


United's new home officially started rising in July when construction crews began erecting the stadium's first steel super columns.

Interior video and renderings released | Nov. 16, 2017


Fans got their first glimpses of Audi Field's interior spaces when the stadium's newest renderings were released in November. With views of the field, concourse areas, clubs, suites, and more, supporters were able to explore Audi Field in its entirety like never before. 

Audi Field home opener announced | Jan. 4, 2018


While Audi Field has been set to open in summer of 2018, fans learned the stadium's official opening date just after the New Year. On Jan. 4, United announced their inaugural match at Audi Field will take place on Saturday, July 14, versus the Vancouver Whitecaps.


Following the first-ever match at their new home, the Black-and-Red will host 14 additional games at Audi Field in its inaugural season, including two matches against rivals the New York Red Bulls, a meeting with defending MLS Cup winners Toronto FC, and the first-ever match between United and Minnesota in D.C. With the home opener's announcement, the countdown to July 14 began. 

Topping Off Ceremony | Jan. 26, 2018


After almost exactly 11 months of construction work, the final piece of structural steel was placed on Audi Field last Friday. Now, construction crews will continue to work on the stadium's interior spaces throughout the spring in preparation of July 14.
