2018 MLS home openers announced

Major League Soccer announced all 23 teams’ home openers for the 2018 MLS Regular Season.

D.C. United’s first home match is on March 17 against the Houston Dynamo at a to-be-determined time and location as construction at Audi Field, United’s new state-of-the-art stadium, continues. Major League Soccer also announced that United will play a second home match prior to the opening of Audi Field, but will release the details of that match in January.

Any home match not played at Audi Field is not automatically included in the 2018 full season ticket packages and full season members won’t be automatically charged for those games. Once all game details are finalized, all 2018 full season ticket members will have priority to purchase tickets to those matches. All single game tickets will go on sale in 2018.

The Black-and-Red will play the majority of their early season games on the road, before moving into Audi Field later this summer. United will open the 2018 season in Orlando on Saturday, March 3 at 7:30 PM and will take on Atlanta at Mercedes-Benz Stadium at 3 PM on Sunday, March 11.

In 22 seasons at RFK Stadium, D.C. United recorded a 9-6-7 home opener record. The Black-and-Red have scored 30 goals and conceded 30 goals in the 22 games. This is the first time in club history that United play Houston in a home opener. Since 1996, the Black-and-red have recorded a 4-4-3 record, scoring 14 and conceding 18 in home openers against Western Conference teams.

Last season, D.C. United and Houston met once in the 2017 regular season. Despite a 62nd-minute Bobby Boswell goal, three first-half goals from the Dynamo secured a win for the visiting team at RFK Stadium on July 22.

During the 2018 MLS regular season, each club will play 34 games, including 17 home games and 17 away games. Teams will face each of their conference opponents (10 in the East, 11 in the West) twice during the season with one game at home and one game away. Western Conference teams will play one additional intra-conference game and Eastern Conference teams will play two. All teams will face each non-conference opponent once.

Major League Soccer expects to release the full 34-game schedule in January.
