This week in From The Vault, D.C. United defeated the Columbus Crew in an intense second-round playoff match. Marco Etcheverry, 1998 MLS MVP, and Tony Sanneh scored for the Black-and-Red on Oct. 11, 1998. The U.S. Men's National Team defeated Cuba to remain undefeated in World Cup qualifying on Oct. 14, 2008. It was the USMNT's sixth consecutive qualifying win. A year later on Oct. 11, 2009, the USMNT’s Jonathan Bornstein equalized in stoppage time against a Costa Rican side fighting to qualify for the 2010 World Cup. The draw placed the USA on top of the group and provided Honduras with their first trip to the World Cup. On Oct. 15, 2011, Richie Williams was inducted into D.C. United’s Hall of Tradition. Finally, the USMNT played their most recent match at RFK Stadium, facing New Zealand in a friendly which resulted in a 1-1 draw on Oct. 11, 2016.
