United sign goalkeeper Steve Clark

United have signed American goalkeeper Steve Clark. Clark, 31, has 100 MLS appearances in his career over three seasons with Columbus Crew SC from 2014-2016.  He most recently played for AC Horsens of the Danish Superliga, starting 17 matches.

“Steve is a veteran goalkeeper with both MLS and international experience,” Dave Kasper, United general manager and VP of soccer operations, said. “His track record in Major League Soccer is impressive and we are pleased to add another quality player to this team and upgrade our depth at the goalkeeper position.”

The Michigan native recorded 22 shutouts during his three season in Columbus and missed only two matches. Clark made at least 110 saves in all three years, finishing second, second and fourth, respectively, in MLS for most saves. In 2014, he was named Crew SC’s Defender of the Year and was one of only five players in all of MLS to play every minute of the league campaign.

Prior to his time in Columbus, Clark played for Norwegian side Hønefoss BK for four seasons.
