United have announced a partnership with local youth club D.C. Athletics in an effort to improve player advancement for a professional pathway starting at a young age.
"We're very excited to build a relationship with D.C. Athletics Club," Ryan Martin, director of United's academy, said. "The club have excelled at providing a strong starting point for players in the Mid-Atlantic Region, and we're excited to build upon their success and create another pathway to professional soccer in the local region."
Through the partnership, both D.C. United and DCA will cooperate to combine and enhance resources for player development, with top players in the District of Columbia transitioning to the United academy at an age to be determined. The two teams will have annual scrimmages against each other and United coaching staff will lead educational sessions for DCA coaches while also expanding the scouting network between both clubs.
