Academy Update: August 8, 2014

D.C. United Academy coaches will travel abroad to observe the F.C. Internazionale youth academy during its preseason training in Trento, Italy, from Aug. 15-21. D.C. United and Inter share ownership and entered into a collaboration agreement in December 2013. A joint training session for the clubs’ senior teams took place at RFK Stadium last month.

“This is an unmatched opportunity afforded to our coaches as part of our special relationship with Inter,” said D.C. United Academy Director Nolan Sheldon. “The timing couldn’t be better ahead of the start of the Academy year."

With the start of the 2014-15 Academy season nearing, a trio of D.C. United Academy players have also been invited to upcoming U.S. national team youth camps that will take place at Stubhub Center in Carson, Calif. Chandler Vaughn (PWSI) will join the U.S. Under-15 boys from Aug. 16-24, while Alexis Cerritos (Cerritos Academy) and Michael Edwards (PWSI) both take part in the U.S. Under-14 boys camp from Aug. 9-16. It will be Vaughn’s first U-15 camp after extensive experience with the U-14s while it is the second U-14 call-up for both Cerritos and Edwards.
