D.C. United Academy Playoffs: Day Four

DCU U-18s last day

The D.C. United U-18s played their last playoff game Thursday morning against Nomads FC in a foggy haze that enveloped all of Grand Park’s fields. This was the last Academy game for many of the U-18s as they stepped onto the pitch.

The Nomads scored early in the 10th and 15th minute to go up 2-0 on United. The Black-and-Red held the California club at 2-0 until halftime. The game was a physical battle played on a waterlogged field. The Nomads scored another goal in the 55th minute after United conceded a penalty kick. Umarr Bangura scored United’s lone goal in the 67th minute after James Filerman fed him a nice through ball. Nomads scored one final goal in the 89th minute after United went down to 10 men. The final score was 4-1 in favor of the Nomads.

The D.C. United U-16s have the opportunity to advance out of Group D with a win or tie against the LA Galaxy on Friday, June 27. While both United and LA have plenty of firepower up front, each side’s backline has also been very stingy. East vs. West begins Friday at 9 a.m. Follow @DCUyouth on Twitter for real time updates and check out the D.C. United Facebook for playoff photos! Vamos United!
