D.C. United hires new Director of Communications

D.C. United announced today that Craig Stouffer has been named the club’s Director of Communications. In addition to his ongoing role as the team spokesperson for the proposed stadium plan at Buzzard Point, Stouffer will oversee all of the club’s communications and media relations activities.

“Craig has a great history and understanding of the media landscape, our club and Major League Soccer,” said D.C. United Chief Operating Officer Tom Hunt. “His perspective and passion are fantastic assets as we move forward with important initiatives both on and off the field.”

Stouffer, 39, has more than a decade of experience in the sports media industry, having covered a wide range of stories as a journalist with The Washington Examiner. In addition to full time coverage of D.C. United and soccer from 2005-2013 – including the U.S. Men’s and Women’s National Teams, women’s professional soccer and college soccer – he also was the daily newspaper’s beat writer for the Washington Wizards for three seasons and Georgetown men’s basketball for three seasons while contributing coverage for a variety of other teams and events.

Stouffer graduated from Middlebury College in 1997 with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish.
