First Team

Training Notes: March 11, 2014

Collin Martin Training 3-11

D.C. United returned to work today after having the day off yesterday. The Black-and-Red has a bye-week this week but is working hard to resolve some of the issues that lead to a 3-0 loss to the Crew last Saturday. Before training, the coaching staff took the team through a film session, then United headed out to the training fields.

After warming up, United broke into three groups and played 5v2 before moving into a possession drill in which the goal was to pass the ball through gates, keeping the ball low. After the first bought, DCU captain Bobby Boswell spoke to the team, telling them to get pressure on the ball quicker and get the energy up.

Next, United moved to a three-team scrimmage, with one team outside the grid as servers. Several goals were scored off crosses and with individual skill. The Black-and-Red returned to the stadium for yoga after training.

Ben Olsen after going through film from Saturday:
"Overall, going through the game, there were a lot of positives we can build on. The issues we had are fixable; some of it is chemistry that I have said all along is going to take time, and some of it is tactical, that we need to get right in the short term. In the end, I am still very excited about this team.”
