D.C. United midfielder Kyle Porter called up by Canada

Washington, D.C. (November 8, 2013) – D.C. United today announced that midfielder Kyle Porter has been called up by the Canada Men’s National Team for training camp based in Waltersdorf, Austria. Players will report on Monday, Nov. 11, with games on Nov. 15 against the Czech Republic in Olomouc, Czech Republic, and Nov. 18 against Slovenia in Celje, Slovenia.

Porter, who first played with the U-17 Canada National Team, was most recently called up to Canada Men’s National Team for a friendly against Mauritania on Sept. 8, in Valencia, Spain. The midfielder started and went 65 minutes in the 0-0 draw. Porter has five caps to his name, with his first international appearance coming in a 4-0 loss to Denmark on January 26.


On February 28, Porter was acquired from Vancouver Whitecaps FC for a second round pick in the 2014 Supplemental Draft. In his first season with the Black-and-Red, the midfielder played in 27 games (18 starts), tied for a team-high in goals scored (3) and also recorded one assist.
