Kemp played with Stertzer all four years at the University of Maryland (along with D.C. United teammates Ethan White from 2009-2010 and Casey Townsend from 2009-2011), accruing an astounding 68-14-9 record in their college career together with the Terrapins. Both players were drafted in the first round of the 2013 MLS SuperDraft – Stertzer going 12th overall to Real Salt Lake and Kemp going 17th overall to D.C. United.

Kemp’s Maryland Terrapins and Martinez’s North Carolina Tar Heels are both represented in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) within the NCAA. When both players were at their respective schools, Kemp (along with D.C. United teammates Casey Townsend and Ethan White) started while Martinez came in as a substitute in the sole matchup between the two teams in 2009, ending 1-0 in favor of Maryland. In 2010, Martinez and Kemp (along with Townsend and White) faced each other twice, both teams trading wins that year. Martinez scored against Kemp’s Terrapins while Kemp’s college compatriot John Stertzer (now Martinez’s teammate at Real Salt Lake) scored the other goal in a 1-1 draw on 10/21/11. From 2009-2011, Kemp’s Terrapins were 2-1-1 against Martinez’s Tar Heels.

Taylor Kemp and the Terrapins faced Cole Grossman’s Duke Blue Devils on two occasions, splitting the results with one win each. On October 1, 2009, Maryland beat Duke 2-0. Kemp (accompanied by Casey Townsend and Ethan White) and Grossman both started the match. Duke evened the score almost exactly a year later on October 2, 2010 at Duke.
