In boxing, the tale of the tape is the pre-fight measurements between the two combatants. In 2013, we're telling the tale of the tape between D.C. United and its foe of the week.
The players who have scored seven of United’s last eight goals boast an average age of just 22.86. In this time period, Luis Silva (age 24) has tallied four times, Conor Doyle (age 21) has notched two and Jared Jeffrey and Nick DeLeon (both age 23) netted one apiece.
From July 3 to Aug. 17, D.C. United midfielder Luis Silva tallied either a goal or an assist in five consecutive games, tied (with Vancouver’s Camilo) for the second-highest mark thus far in MLS 2013.
Lack of Opportunities
Chivas USA sits almost at the very bottom of the League in a few key offensive categories. The Goats are second-to-last in shots (270) and shots on goal (91). Only Toronto FC’s mark is worse, with 255 total shots and 80 shots on-target. Additionally, Chivas has registered the second-least corner kicks (106) in MLS.
Not only does Chivas USA lead MLS ejections (8) and yellow cards (54), but the Goats have registered the second-highest team fouls (377) in the League. Only Sporting Kansas City has committed more infractions (402).
D.C. United has taken the third-most corner kicks (145) in MLS 2013. Only the back-to-back MLS Cup finalists LA Galaxy (178) and Houston Dynamo (155) have registered higher marks.
