D.C. United to host seventh annual Latin Fest presented by TD Bank

Washington, D.C. (September 12, 2012) – As part of Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations, D.C. United will host the seventh annual Latin Festival presented by TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank ®.  The festival will take place on Saturday, September 15, from 3:00-7:00 p.m. ET on the D.C. Armory Lawn.  Immediately following the event, D.C. United will take on the New England Revolution at 7:30 p.m. ET at RFK Stadium.

“We’re very excited to host this magnificent event for our Latin fanbase,” said Executive Vice President Stephen Zack.  “D.C. United is proud of the deep and rich history of support developed within the local Hispanic community and we certainly hope the fans enjoy the festival atmosphere pre-game and afterward cheer on the Black-and-Red in this important match against New England.”

The Latin Festival is a great opportunity for fans to celebrate the culture, music, cuisine, and sport of Latin America. The event is free and open to the public and will feature musical performances by Grupo Kazzabe from Honduras, Grupo Algodón from El Salvador and La Sonora Dinamita.  The entertainment line-up also includes traditional folcloric dance performances from Panamanian group Grufolpawa and from Bolivia, Fraternidad Caporales Universitarios San Simon Filial Virginia, as well as a children’s salsa dance performance from dance company “Salsa Fuego”.  

In addition, D.C. United has partnered with the non-partisan organization Voto Latino to conduct a voter registration drive on-site during the festival.  Voto Latino is a next-generation, constituency based organization that empowers American Latinos to claim a better future by voting. United by the belief that Latino issues are American issues and American issues are Latino issues, Voto Latino is dedicated to bringing new and diverse voices into the political process by engaging youth, media, technology and celebrities to shake up the political process.
