Lights. Camera. Action.
That's what a few D.C. United players were hearing late Monday night as they went through a series of interviews, photo and video shoots as part of an upcoming promotional campaign on NBC. Surrounded by what seemed like a movie production, five Black-and-Red players took part in the high-tech - and at times dramatic - event.
"I was very impressed with what NBC and MLS are doing together," said fourth-year winger Chris Pontius, who joined teammates Dwayne De Rosario, Hamdi Salihi, Andy Najar and Branko Boskovic as D.C.'s representatives Monday evening. "The quality of the shoot was amazing, it was real professional out there."
Last August, MLS and NBC announced a three-year broadcast deal to televise 45 league matches and four U.S. national team games on the main network and on the newly-branded NBC Sports Network.
"It's very important to have the support of such a big network," Pontius added. "NBC is a well known and well respected network. It's good for our league and it's very exciting as a player."
Known for its excellence in sports television, NBC plans to bring the same high-quality production and storytelling that fans have grown accustomed to seeing on Sunday Night Football and the Olympics to Major League Soccer.
D.C. United will make five appearances on NBC Sports Network this upcoming season.
- March 30 vs Dallas
- May 12 at Houston
- June 24 at New York
- August 19 vs Philadelphia
- October 27 at Chicago
