United in Florida: Day 8

2012 preseason - Florida

After a recovery session in the gym on Monday, D.C. Unitedresumed outdoor training on Tuesday at the IMG Academy, the same venue whereUnited will play the second scrimmage of the year against Swedish side MalmoFF. The match will take place this Thursday, February 2 at 10:30 a.m. ET(updates will be shared via twitter).


Tuesday’s training session began with a challenging warm-up,followed by a passing drill. With the squad divided into two groups, thepurpose of the exercise was to work on ball control and one-touch passes. ChrisPontius, Ethan White, Danny Cruz and Nick DeLeon all participated in the drill.Emiliano Dudar (sprained ankle) worked on the side with United’s medical staff. 


Ben Olsen’s next exercise focused on ball recovery andexpanding offensively as a unit. Energetic as usual, United’s Head Coach was anactive participant in the drill. For the last portion of practice, players wereplaced in three teams and an 8-vs-8 tournament took place.


The training session ended with a visit from United Hall ofTradition member and newly-appointed U.S. U-17 Men's National Team Head Coach, Richie Williams, who even stuck around for a D.C. United staff soccer game.
