Ethan White undergoes hernia surgery

D.C. United announced today defender Ethan Whiteunderwent surgery for a sports hernia on both his right and left sides. Whitetraveled to Munich, Germany for the surgery performed by hernia specialist Dr.Ulrike Muschaweck.


White was recently called-up to the U.S. U-23National Team, where he was coached by the newly-appointed Caleb Porter. TheUnited defender joined teammate Perry Kitchen at the National Team training campin Duisburg, Germany, but was forced out of action following a right kneeinjury on November 11 in a scrimmage with VKL Bochum. White will be evaluatedby United’s medical staff upon his return to Washington next week.


In his first MLS season, White played 24 matches (21starts), tallying one goal in 1,928 minutes of action. The rookie defender wasthe third D.C. United Academy product to sign with the first team on December14, 2010, following goalkeeper Bill Hamid and midfielder Andy Najar.
